Continuing Role

The University’s School of Animal & Veterinary Science is seeking to employ a Veterinarian Clinician in the Roseworthy Veterinary Hospital (RVH) to provide services in Emergency and Criticial Care, and to provide clinical mentoring and guidance to final year veterinary and veterinary technology students.

Here is your opportunity to work in a friendly closely-knit team of experienced Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) and GP clinicians, supported by specialists and superb nursing and support staff. You will be a clinical mentor to final year DVM students, and your high standard of clinical and professional behaviour will provide a valuable professional role model for them.  Working with their enthusiasm to get involved with case management, you will help to educate the upcoming generation of veterinarians.

The ECC team aims to provide 24/7 emergency and critical care services for a varied and dynamic caseload of small animal patients with on-site ultrasound, X-ray and CT imaging and the support of a dedicated radiographer. A few seconds away is the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, invaluable for fast turnaround of clinical pathology samples and direct contact with pathologists for case discussion.

This is a great environment in which to study for your own ANZCVS membership or similar. Further study and continuing professional development activities are encouraged and supported with time off and up to $3,000 per annum available to spend on your choice of CPD. Other benefits include free full access to international journals through the University Library plus VIN membership.

All that and this too: the RVH, located on the University of Adelaide’s Roseworthy Campus, is surrounded by great lifestyle opportunities.

We are situated on the doorstep of the Barossa Valley, an internationally renowned wine region and a delightful part of the world. We have easy access to beaches, sporting activities, benchmark schools and shopping facilities. There is easy access to the city and its many attractions. Adelaide is known as a cultural centre, with its hugely successful Festival of the Arts, and as a sports-mad destination.

To be successful you will need:

  • Qualification in Veterinary Science acceptable for Veterinarian registration in South Australia.
  • Demonstrated veterinary experience in first opinion general practice and/or emergency services will be an advantage, but recent graduates will be considered.
  • Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of clients and team members.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm and experience in assisting, teaching or mentoring others.
  • Demonstrated high level written communication skills, including the ability to keep detailed, accurate medical records and write professional referral letters and client correspondence.
