An exciting opportunity to join the new Adelaide University

The Ramsay Fellowship at the University is a prestigious four-year research opportunity established in 2008 through a generous bequest from the Ramsay family, founders of the Kiwi Polish Company. The fellowship aims to advance knowledge and fundamental research in the natural sciences, encourage research excellence, increase research opportunities at the University, and provide outstanding Australian scientists with the chance to enhance their potential as future scientific leaders.

Katrina Ramsay, a representative of the Ramsay family, has been actively involved in the fellowship's administration, expressing enthusiasm about the high calibre of applicants and the program's role in bringing talented scientists back to Australia.

Following a generous donation, The Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology is now calling for applications for Ramsay Fellowships from outstanding early- mid-career researchers and is intended for candidates who have demonstrated significant potential research in their early post-doctoral years.

Under the terms of the fellowship, applicants who have had post-doctoral experience in organisations other than the University of Adelaide and are currently working overseas will be strongly preferred.

As outlined in the Ramsay Fellowship Guidelines (accessible via the Position Description/Selection Criteria link below), the fellowship may be taken up within one of the Schools in the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology.

To be successful you will need:

  • A PhD (or equivalent higher degree) awarded within the last (8) years, or equivalent research experience in a relevant area.
  • Success in obtaining competitive research grants (as primary investigator or co-investigator) or other research funding.
  • The ability to attract and supervise high-quality research students.
  • A track record of achievements including prizes / awards, lodging of patents.
  • A proven track record of publications in highly ranked international journals.
  • Commitment to the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, with an ability to communicate scientific ideas to a broad audience.
  • A strong work ethic, and the ability to work well independently, and as a member of a broader team.
