Join a team of creative learning design professionals at the University of Adelaide to design and develop online educational programs to support teaching staff in delivering excellent learning outcomes for students.

Learning Enhancement and Innovation (LEI) facilitate, design and create engaging and flexible student-centric blended and online learning experiences. In partnership with subject matter experts, LEI empower academics to teach and students to learn by providing guidance into innovative pedagogically-driven design practices and learning technologies. 

The Learning Designer is responsible for collaborating with teaching staff in delivering quality learning outcomes for students at all levels, through enhanced program and course design. This Adelaide-based role draws on relevant pedagogical expertise to guide best practices for designing curriculum, assessments and learning activities in higher education. The position involves frequent collaboration with academics and colleagues on campus, supporting the use of educational technologies, and fostering strong working relationships to ensure a shared understanding of educational principles, methodologies, and innovative practices. By engaging directly with teaching staff in workshops, consultations, and planning sessions, the Learning Designer plays a vital role in driving the University’s commitment to providing excellent, student-focused learning experiences.

To be successful you will need:

Essential:

  • Strong understanding of educational principles and methodologies and their application in higher education, including experience in the design and development of blended and/or online educational programs, courses and activities.
  • Experience in designing learning content and activities, including working with a Learning Management System and the implementation of curriculum design principles.
  • Operational familiarity with a number of common software tools, including MS Office, educational technologies, project management tools, media, visual and graphic design tools.
  • Experience in managing multiple projects, demonstrating well developed organisational skills and a capacity to act independently within established guidelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a collaborative team environment and independently, develop productive relationships quickly, and sustain a client service orientation.
  • Demonstrated life-long learning orientation and ability to apply a problem-solving approach to challenges that arise in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, the implementation of equity principles, workplace health and safety principles, accessibility and copyright.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote the organisational values of integrity, respect, collegiality, excellence and discovery, and a commitment to positively comply with the associated behaviour expectations. 

 Desirable:

  • Detailed knowledge and experience with Canvas Learning Management System.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of User Experience Design principles and practices applied to the design and development of online and multimedia projects.
  • Knowledge and experience within one or more pedagogical expertise areas relevant to the University’s strategic teaching and learning priorities (e.g.  assessment design, learning analytics, discovery/inquiry-based learning, work integrated learning, learning space design, evaluating flexible educational strategies and technologies at a tertiary level).
