The University of Adelaide is seeking a visionary Commercial Manager to lead our efforts in translating world-class research into impactful commercial outcomes.
The Innovation and Commercialisation Services Branch (ICS) provides consolidated and commercially focused support for all services that deliver research revenue.
As the Commercial Manager (Health and Medical Sciences) you will play a pivotal role within the Commercialisation team which is part of the Innovation and Commercialisation Services Branch.
The Commercial Manager (Health and Medical Sciences) engages with University researchers, industry partners, government stakeholders, regulators, venture capitalists and other funding providers, and assists the Director in managing the University’s intellectual property and equity portfolio. The Commercial Manager maintains and manages a portfolio, which may cross over into other disciplines based on need and expertise.
As an integral part of the Commercialisation team, the Commercial Manager works to create new opportunities for the University in intellectual property, licensing and the generation and support of new spin-out companies, as ways to translate research conducted at the University into the rest of the world. The role aims to generate impact through knowledge transfer and economic development for South Australia and the nation.
To be successful you will need:
- To be a resilient self-starter, able to take a hands-on approach in a less structured environment, to identify potential partners and outcomes to effectively secure commercial deals.
- Strong track record in identifying, co-ordinating, delivering to deadline and enhancing strategies in a complex multi-stakeholder environment.
- Understanding of intellectual property protection processes and procedures.
- Direct experience in executing commercial agreements.
- Demonstrated ability to use different leadership techniques to persuade, negotiate, motivate and drive transactions as a team player.
- Highly developed verbal and written communications skills including experience in the delivery of presentations and preparation of reports.
The successful candidate may be required to hold or attain an Australian government security clearance.
