A fantastic opportunity to play a key part in the education of the next generation of engineers in a dynamic work environment that supports a broad variety of challenging work.
As a Technician in the Technical Services Team, your role will be to deliver technical support and advice for teaching and research projects to students, academics and research staff in line with the strategic direction of the Faculty. This role is based primarily at Thebarton but may require working from other campuses according to business needs.
You will be required to support the day-to-day operation of the Thebarton facility which houses a large scale wind tunnel, combustion-related testing areas and other large scale research activities. You will also assist students and research staff in the design, commissioning, and modifications of research test rigs, to maintain safe operations and achieve teaching and research outcomes.
A strong emphasis is placed on safety, positive teamwork, accurate record keeping, effective time management and clear communication skills.
To be successful you will need:
- Knowledge of Work Health and Safety management systems that apply to an engineering testing/research environment.
- Recognised competencies and demonstrated experience with using metal workshop machinery and fabrication equipment, working in a customer focused environment.
- Demonstrated experience with the design, installation, use, maintenance and repair of equipment items related to aerodynamic testing, renewable energy, energy storage and/or combustion technologies.
- High-level organisational skills and an ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines, and the ability to prioritise tasks and assignments.
- Ability to work with general supervision, think creatively and laterally and exercise initiative as appropriate to achieve standards of excellence and monitor on-going performance.
- Demonstrated high level of computer literacy, and a knowledge of data acquisition, software measurement and control, and 3D printing technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to promote the organisational values of integrity, respect, collegiality, excellence and discovery, and a commitment to positively comply with the associated behaviour expectations.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a post-trades certificate and extensive relevant experience working in a workshop or laboratory environment; or
- An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
