Are you a leader passionate about supporting world-class biomedical research? The University of Adelaide is seeking a Team Leader for our Core Rodent Breeding Facility, a vital part of our Laboratory Animal Services (LAS) team. This is your chance to lead a dedicated team and contribute to ground-breaking research in a supportive and dynamic environment.

The Team Leader, Core Rodent Breeding Facility, will lead a small team, liaising with all research groups, delivering outstanding technical support, and ensuring breeding colony management adheres to ethically approved projects. In addition, the Team Leader will set up and coordinate rederivation of rodent lines into the breeding facility including IVF procedures and cryopreservation where appropriate.

The Team Leader will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Core Rodent Breeding Facility including the establishment of facilities and services. In addition, the Team Leader will undertake compliance activities such as audits, inspections, quality assurance programs and coordinating facility and equipment maintenance with contractors to ensure the facility meets requirements of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.

Overseeing the tasks of technicians to ensure compliance with researchers’ specifications and the breeding colony size and strategies are a major part of this role, as well as leading a team of technicians makes this role unique as it requires someone who has both the technical and leadership experience.

To be successful you will need:

  • Significant experience working in a biomedical research environment.
  • Significant experience in rederivation of rodent lines using IVF procedures and cryopreservation.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead a small team.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of compliance and quality issues impacting on a biomedical research environment.
  • Proven interpersonal and liaison skills in building constructive relationships with clients and stakeholders within, and external to, the University.
  • Experience in HS&W compliance and compliance systems and demonstrated ability to interpret and apply policies, rules and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with PeopleSoft, Research Master, Animal Colony Maintenance software or similar.

Special Requirements:

  • Direct animal handling is required.
  • Some out-of-hours work, including weekends and public holidays.
  • A current driver’s license is essential.
