Located on a 1600-hectare property, the campus features a working farm, a comprehensive veterinary teaching facility, animal holding areas, and a range of general-purpose and specialist teaching, research, and laboratory spaces.
Embedded within the School is the Roseworthy Veterinary Hospital (RVH), which functions as the commercial clinical services arm. RVH comprises three distinct business units designed to create financially sustainable clinical teaching environments: the Small Animal Hospital, the Large Animal Hospital, and Pathology. The RVH Pathology unit provides both routine and specialised diagnostic services to the two veterinary hospitals, as well as to researchers and external organisations.
The Veterinary Microbiologist will work under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager as part of the RVH Pathology team. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with animal specimens, biohazardous and chemical materials, and will actively contribute to improving laboratory maintenance systems and safety protocols. Strong communication skills and the ability to demonstrate initiative particularly in identifying opportunities for continuous improvement are essential. The successful applicant will also be open to further training across other areas of the laboratory and willing to support the teaching and supervision of students.
To be successful you will need:
- Advanced knowledge in laboratory techniques in microbiology in a diagnostic setting.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret the significance of results and provide informed comment to clients and stakeholders.
- Capacity to work independently but participate cooperatively in team projects.
- Attention to detail in record keeping and documentation
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the application of ISO/IEC 17025 (2018) and Occupational Health, Safety & Welfare policies in a laboratory
- A relevant tertiary qualification and/or extensive (>5 years) relevant experience in a veterinary microbiology laboratory
