Adelaide Microscopy is the University’s core facility for Advanced Microscopy and Microanalysis. The facility provides access to advanced microscopy and microanalysis platforms across four laboratories to the research students and staff of the University, and to industry. Adelaide Microscopy supports the University of Adelaide as a world-class research-intensive University.
Receiving broad direction working with a degree of autonomy, the Senior Microscopist is responsible for the operation and training of researchers on a range of basic and advanced light microscopy imaging. The Senior Microscopist will also develop application protocols to ensure quality use of instrument data and provide expertise and advice in sample preparation for confocal and fluorescence imaging. The successful candidate will also work closely with staff at Adelaide Microscopy, researchers from colleges within Adelaide University, external universities, government, corporate clients and key stakeholders including NCRIS initiatives such as Microscopy Australia.
To be successful you will need:
- Demonstrated experience in the operation and application of advanced Light Microscopy.
- Sound knowledge of and experience with sample preparation of biological samples for Light Microscopy.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a small team and with key stakeholders to deliver successful outcomes within agreed time frames.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels, research academics and representatives of government, business and industry
- Well-developed communications skills: written and verbal with ability to write reports and technical documents describing projects and presentation skills with the ability to influence and inspire
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritise work and work independently as appropriate
Qualification/s:
- Postgraduate qualifications (preferable in either biological or health sciences, or related field) or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
