Full-time, continuing position.

We are seeking a motivated, capable and skilled technician with experience in providing specialist laboratory and technical support to the South Australian Regional Facility for Molecular Ecology and Evolution (SARFMEE).

The Technical Services Team delivers outstanding support to students, academics and researchers for enhancing education and research output. We provide a platform for collaboration across the University, broad industry involvement and community engagement through focused customer service based on exceptional personnel skills and expertise.

The Technical team Life and Earth Sciences support the internationally acclaimed and contemporary disciplines of molecular & cellular biology; ecology & environmental sciences; geology & earth sciences and genetics & evolution, supporting undergraduate and postgraduate education, training and research with both national relevance and global outreach and networks in the public and private sectors.

Working under limited direction the Specialist Technical Officer supports a broad range of activities related to the operation, management and maintenance of the South Australian Regional Facility for Molecular Ecology and Evolution (SARFMEE), a facility supporting internal and external clients. The position is responsible for supervision and training of research staff and students in laboratory safety, molecular biological and bioinformatic procedures, management of the facility’s finances, maintenance of laboratory resources and technical developments. The Specialist Technical Officer maintains accurate records of all related infrastructure and assets, ensuring compliance with Health, Safety and Wellbeing and legislative requirements. 

To be successful you will need:

  • Extensive experience of molecular biological technology and knowledge of molecular systematics, particularly that appropriate to the application of the various molecular technologies
  • Demonstrated experience in managing laboratory resources and financial accounts
  • Demonstrated verbal and written interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain key relationships with a diverse range of staff, students and volunteers, including the provision of practical training.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform complex technical procedures without direct supervision and an aptitude for laboratory investigations and quality control
  • Demonstrated experience of safety and regulatory requirements and application of these in a research environment
