Based in the Integration Management Office (IMO) in the Legislation and Academic Governance Domain in the Adelaide CBD 

About you   

Are you a skilled professional with a proven track record in navigating complex environments and building strong collaborative relationships across teams? We’re seeking an exceptional writer to manage the end to end process of writing new policies with the ability to manage tight deadlines and competing demands. 

About the role 

This is an exciting and unique opportunity for an experienced Policy Manager and exceptional writer to work in collaboration with subject matter experts across The University of Adelaide (UoA) and the University of South Australia (UniSA) to develop and draft a fresh suite of contemporary policies and procedures in line with the Policy Framework for the new Adelaide University. 

Our vision is to be sector leading and this role will be responsible for writing fresh policy content in a fast-paced environment, managing and coordinating policy related activities and engaging with stakeholders within an allocated portfolio (i.e. academic, corporate or other sub-portfolios such as HR, Finance, Marketing etc). The role will deliver the policies and procedures required to be developed between now and 1 January 2026. 

Core Responsibilities 

Writing and editing:

  • Develop and edit new policies and procedures ensuring: 
    • The policy development process is followed, research is undertaken and a fresh draft policy document is created in preparation for stakeholder input and approval  
    • Content is contemporary, fresh and in line with the Adelaide University Policy Framework, future policy suite, style guide and workplan. 
  • Leading and collaborating: 
    • Lead the development and delivery of a policy suite against an assigned portfolio from inception to implementation 
    • Collaborate and work closely with key stakeholders and subject matter experts, building productive and respectful relationships quickly. 
  • Workplan management: 
    • Participate in the daily check ins to ensure progress is on track and challenges escalated for resolution 
    • Contribute to the upkeep of information in the project management tool 
    • Plan and document the policy production processes and timelines in conjunction with the project team. 

Essential Skills and Experience 

  • Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline (e.g. law), or extensive experience in a comparable professional writing or editing position within a large complex organisation. 
  • A level of personal resilience and agility to work within a face-paced environment and champion change management practices and advocacy. 
  • Experience in drafting and editing documents which are user friendly and readable by a diverse range of audiences with high level detail and accuracy. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences and clearly articulate and present complex information in a meaningful and usable form. 
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a fast-paced, complex environment and interact, influence, negotiate and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders at all levels of the institution to achieve successful outcomes. 
  • Proven success in meeting and managing timeline deliverables, including the ability to achieve tight timelines.
