About our hospital
The Roseworthy Veterinary Hospital (RVH) is the School’s clinical teaching facility. The RVH operates on a commercial basis, offering a range of first opinion, advanced and specialist veterinary services across all animal species to the general public and referring veterinarians. The RVH offers high quality first opinion, referral and 24/7 Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) veterinary services to the public and provides a clinical training environment for final year veterinary students working under the close supervision of experienced veterinary surgeons, nurses and support staff. As a unit of RVH, the Small Animal Hospital offers the latest technology, equipment and professional services to treat small companion animals of all species.

The Role
The Qualified Veterinary Nurse is a member of the Small Animal Hospital professional staff team. This role includes rostered 24/7 nursing support to all the clinical teaching veterinarians across a range of animal care related teaching and commercial activities. The position is suited to a nurse that has worked in small animal practice for a minimum of 3 years.

The role provides an opportunity to advance your skill levels in areas of surgery, anaesthesia, patient care, emergency medicine and wellness clinics. You will work alongside specialists and experts in their field giving you the ability to be involved in advanced treatment plans, surgery and procedures. The clinic has advanced imaging equipment including a CT & ultrasound. This position is focused on small animal surgery and anaesthesia teamwork, also servicing our GP and ECC teams.

About You
An enthusiastic, team-oriented nurse with a passion for delivering the highest standards of service and care, you have proven experience as a qualified veterinary nurse in a clinical setting. You are able to work in high pressure situations, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and are motivated to mentor the next generation of vets by imparting knowledge and modelling the highest standards of professional behaviour.

To be successful you will need:

  • Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing with a minimum of 3 years experience
  • Demonstrates capacity to work in a collaborative and dynamic hospital, while maintaining best practices and mentorship for students in a teaching hospital.
  • Attention to detail in administering treatments, record keeping and documentation.
  • Demonstrated experience and /or knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Demonstrates veterinary nursing experience with sound technical skills and knowledge in area of interest (Surgery and Anaesthesia, ECC, Internal Medicine, or GP).
  • Demonstrates a professional attitude when working with clients and other staff members.
