Innovation & Commercial Partners (ICP) Commercialisation is the technology transfer unit for the University delivering University technologies to the market that create positive impact on society and in turn bring benefit to the University to support its research activities and ongoing innovation.
As an integral part of the Commercialisation team, the Commercial Manager works to create new opportunities for the University in intellectual property, licensing and the generation and support of new spin-out companies, as ways to translate research conducted at the University into the rest of the world. The role aims to generate impact through knowledge transfer and economic development for South Australia and the nation. The Commercial Manager engages with University researchers, industry partners, government stakeholders, regulators, venture capitalists and other funding providers, and assists the Director in managing the University’s intellectual property and equity portfolio.
Health & Medical Sciences at the University is interdisciplinary and ranges from discovery to pre-clinical and clinical research in partnership with industry, other University faculty, the South Australian Health system, SAHMRI and SAiGENCI.
The role requires a self-starter, with combined experience in business development, commercial negotiation and relationship management, who can effectively scope, assess, market and translate the University’s high-tech intellectual property assets to external partners, to maximise impact from our research.
The Commercial Manager maintains and manages a portfolio, which may cross over into other disciplines based on need and expertise.
To be successful you will need:
To take a hands-on approach in a less structured environment to identify potential partners and co-ordinate, deliver to deadline and implement technology commercialisation strategies in a complex multi-stakeholder, multi-priority environment
To be a resilient self-starter, with outstanding interpersonal, communication, influencing and proven contract negotiation and execution skills to effectively drive transactions to deadline as the project team lead.
Demonstrated research, analytical and problem solving skills including the provision of advice and recommendations to senior management.
Demonstrated experience in management, including leadership, motivation and establishment of a quality service environment.
To have existing and current networks with industry, research bodies, government authorities and the investment community.
