Are you highly motivated with a background in analytical laboratories across teaching or research? If so, you may be a perfect candidate for the Technical Officer role in the Chemical and Analytical Services team.

The Chemical and Analytical Services team supports the activities of the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology in the areas of teaching laboratories, chemical analytical facilities, chemical lifecycle and chemical waste management. The team supports undergraduate and postgraduate education, training and research with both national relevance and global outreach with networks in the public and private sectors.

The Technical Officer role provides high quality technical support and advice to students, academic and research staff, with a particular focus in Chemical Engineering. This includes supporting practical delivery, research activities, and shared facilities in line with the strategic direction of the Faculty.

With an emphasis on analytical instrumentation, this role provides training, advice and support to a diverse group of stakeholders including undergraduate and postgraduate students, academic staff, and external clients.

Working with the team, this role frequently contributes to the hands-on maintenance and upkeep of a vast range of specialist plant and equipment in shared research and teaching facilities. Such equipment includes chromatography, particle sizing, X-Ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, and many other types of unique instrumentation.

Health, Safety and Wellbeing is a key aspect of this role, working with the team and stakeholders to ensure compliance with HSW requirements and implementing policies and procedures.

To be successful you will need:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Work Health and Safety management requirements relating to the use of chemicals
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in using and maintaining a range of analytical equipment
  • Demonstrated experience in using and working safely with a range of chemicals ideally in a chemical engineering and bioengineering research environment.
  • Demonstrated experience communicating in a professional and responsive manner to deliver client centric results and achieve outcomes when working with a range of stakeholders
  • Demonstrated knowledge of technical services and principles associated with achieving customer focused outcomes.
  • High level organisational skills and an ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and initiative to learn new skills and processes to achieve an outcome.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote the organisational values of integrity, respect, collegiality, excellence and discovery, and a commitment to positively comply with the associated behaviour expectations.
