This position will lead PSBA’s bioinformatics services and activities. The role will be responsible for managing bioinformatics projects and delivering bioinformatics outcomes that align with Plant Synthetic Biology Australia’s (PSBA) service offerings and will operate with a degree of autonomy. The role will design and oversee bioinformatics pipelines, develop new service offerings and improve methodologies in collaboration with the PSBA team.

This role will need to translate complex data into actionable insights and interact with customers from time to time to ensure PSBA service offerings meet their requirements and will assist with implementation and streamlining organisational processes and will liaise with all PSBA AU staff to make sure the facilities run efficiently, and ensure staff and students adopt a community of practise for facility operations.

Plant Synthetic Biology Australia (PSBA) consists of a network of national facilities with nodes at Adelaide University, Australian National University, La Trobe University and University of Western Australia. PSBA provides plant synthetic biology infrastructure and expertise to drive accelerated gains in agricultural productivity, and development of new products through environmentally sustainable bio-manufacturing.

The Adelaide node of PSBA enables plant synthetic biology services for agricultural crops, as well as for synthetic biology projects in ‘model’ plants. It provides infrastructure and expertise for research providers, government and industry institutions as fee-for-service as well as providing incubation space for the start-up community and opportunities to collaborate

To be successful you will need:

  • Master of Bioinformatics (or similar qualification in the biological sciences) or progressing towards a higher qualification.
  • Experience in High Performance Computing environments and fluency in programming languages such as R, Python, Perl, etc.

  • Evidence of high-quality publications that include bioinformatics analyses such as genomics, transcriptomics and protein structural modelling.

  • Ability to build effective and constructive relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders through the provision of technical services.

  • Demonstrated experience in effective leadership to improve performance, establish a harmonious working environment and maintain an outcome-based focus.

  • Demonstrated experience in managing multi-stakeholder projects, including strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.

Desirable

  • Experience in the analysis of genomic architecture of simple and complex traits

  • Experience in metabolic pathway modelling, sgRNA design and/or machine learning would be beneficial.
