Full Time, Fixed Term position for 12 Months!

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Structural Engineering) to be based within the School of Architecture and Civil Engineering team. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of research, relative to the career opportunity in the application of advanced materials such as fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites for the repair, rehabilitation, of existing infrastructure and recycled FRP composites and/or other construction-grade waste materials. The successful candidate will be highly self-motivated and has the expertise in repair and rehabilitation of structures with advanced materials, construction-grade waste materials and experience in experimentation and modelling of structures or structural elements. This all combined with verbal and written communication skills and journal/grant writing experience and the ability to work well in a team and independently is key for this great opportunity.

To be successful you will need:

  1. A track record of research, relative to the career opportunity in the field of (i) application of fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites for repair and rehabilitation of existing built infrastructure as well as for new construction (ii) Sustainable recycled materials such as recycled FRP composites and/or other construction-grade waste materials.
    (a) a track record of research, relative to the career opportunity.

  2. Highly self-motivated with the knowledge and skills to undertake research in the structures discipline that includes:
    (a) Repair and rehabilitation of structures with advanced materials (such as FRP composites);
    (b) Recycled FRP composites and/or other construction-grade waste materials;
    (c) Experience in experimentation and modelling of structures or structural elements;

  3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the writing of journal articles and grant applications, and the ability to communicate scientific and engineering ideas to a range of audiences.

  4. Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a professional and collegial manner, building rapport with all levels of academic and professional staff and students.

  5. Commitment to the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion, and ability to contribute to the diversity of the School community.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Ability to supervise and motivate undergraduate and post graduate students including encouraging intellectual development and career aspirations.

  • Willingness to engage and collaborate with the broader University, school and discipline group to establish collaborative multi-disciplinary research outcomes.

Qualification/s:

  • A PhD in Civil Engineering specialising in Structural Engineering
