Two fixed-term, full-time positions available for 2 years.  

An exciting opportunity for two passionate Machine Learning Engineers to drive cutting-edge research and real-world innovation in autonomous aerial systems through a unique collaboration between the University and Praetorian Aeronautics.

This exciting role is part of a collaborative research initiative between the University and Praetorian Aeronautics, a leader in aerospace innovation focused on advancing unmanned aerial systems (UAS) for defence and civilian use. As a Machine Learning Engineer specializing in Applied AI/ML for Object Tracking and Sensor Fusion, you will develop next-generation algorithms that power intelligent aerial systems—enabling real-time object tracking, multi-sensor data fusion, and autonomous perception in complex environments. This unique opportunity blends academic research excellence with real-world impact, offering the chance to work within Australia’s largest machine learning research group, the Australian Institute for Machine Learning (AIML), while collaborating directly with Praetorian Aeronautics’ cutting-edge technology team.

To be successful you will need:

  • A degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. A PhD is highly desirable; candidates with a master’s or bachelor’s degree must demonstrate equivalent research or industry experience.
  • Strong programming skills in C/C++ and Python.
  • Proficiency in AI/ML frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow.
  • Expertise in implementing tracking algorithms and multi-sensor fusion techniques.
  • Experience with real-time computing frameworks and embedded AI systems.

Applicants must be eligible to obtain and hold an Australian Government security clearance. Eligibility requirements include Australian citizenship and the ability to meet security vetting criteria.
