This Grant Funded Researcher (A) position is an exciting opportunity to deliver innovative research and real-world impact to help mitigate the risks of farming in a variable climate. The project is funded by the Commonwealth Government under their Climate-Smart Agriculture program and is led by the University of Adelaide with partners at Murdoch University and various grower groups around Australia. This project will apply recent advances in innovative soil technologies/amendments to improve water capture and retention, and water use efficiency. Through field trials conducted in SA, NSW, TAS, WA, and VIC, in collaboration with grower groups, we aim to utilise ‘soil re-engineering’ techniques to address physical, chemical, and biological constraints across various soil types and farming systems. This will contribute to agricultural systems that are productive and resilient in a changing climate.
A full driver’s license will be required, and this role involves frequent interstate travel.
To be successful you will need:
- Completion or near completion of a PhD in agricultural science, soil science, environmental science or have equivalent qualifications or research experience.
- Track record of publication of research in high quality, peer-reviewed journals relative to opportunity.
- Knowledge and hands-on experience in designing and undertaking independent agricultural and/or soil science-related research, including field and laboratory sampling, experiments and analysis.
- Proven ability to engage and communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, in particular farmers and grower groups, to achieve project outcomes.
- Ability to deliver project research milestones, objectives and work programs in full and on time, within budget and to an industry partner’s satisfaction.
