Exciting Senior Lecturer role in the Adelaide Medical School, Discipline of Paediatrics and joint appointment with the Women’s & Children’s Health Network (WCHN).

The Adelaide Medical School provides an innovative and collaborative research and teaching environment.  We are seeking to appoint multiple part–time Senior Lecturers in the Department of Paediatrics as a joint appointment with WCHN, and who will participate in the delivery of clinical services in Paediatrics in one of the following specialties: rheumatology, gastroenterology.

The appointee will be based at the Women’s & Children’s Hospital and will be expected to participate in the delivery of those clinical services in an area of Paediatrics. The appointee will supervise junior medical staff, and will provide leadership in teaching and research in the Adelaide Medical School.

The appointee will report to the Discipline Lead, Paediatrics, as the nominee of the Dean of Medicine, Adelaide Medical School, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences for teaching and research related activities, and to the Head of Clinical Unit, WCHN for clinical duties.

Term of position:  Initial 12-month contract with the opportunity to extend joint position, appointed to the University of Adelaide and the WCH (successful applicant will be provided with two separate employment contracts).

Key responsibilities for The University will broadly include:

Lead research in the Discipline of Paediatrics.

  • Develop and maintain leadership in local, national and international relationships and expertise, including HDR supervision
  • Continue to provide a productive high impact output - academic publications, clinical guidelines, and/or policy statements
  • Submit applications for external research income to secure ongoing financial support to sustain research

Provide leadership in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and evaluation in the Discipline of Paediatrics

  • Teach and supervise undergraduate / honours students in the medical and health sciences programs in the faculty
  • Provide leadership for teaching and curriculum development of undergraduates and postgraduates in the Discipline
  • Provide a high level of commitment to the strategic plans of the university and faculty
  • Liaise and communicate with relevant sections of the community, professional associations and government organisations

Provide academic support to the Discipline of Paediatrics and promote a culture of research and teaching excellence.          

  • Provide a high level of commitment to the strategic plans of the Adelaide Medical School and Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
  • Provide policy advice and leadership in Paediatrics
  • Provide leadership in the developing Adelaide Medical School commitment to indigenous health in any or all of teaching, research and service

Key responsibilities for the Women’s and Children’s Health Network will broadly include:

Clinical Delivery

  • Responsible for the provision of an effective and efficient medical service within the objectives and the philosophies of the hospital
  • Provision of medical care to hospital inpatients and outpatients
  • Meet service requirements of WCHN including participation in the after-hours on call roster
  • Provide policy advice and leadership in Paediatrics

Clinical Leadership

  • Provision of training and supervision to undergraduate and post graduate medical trainees
  • Drive and participate in research, support others in research, and act as a mentor for registrar and fellows’ research projects
  • Encouraging and supporting teamwork amongst staff for optimal clinical service outcomes
  • Involvement in continuing professional development activities
  • Attending and participating in the clinical meetings of the hospital
  • Adhering to policies, protocols and procedures as determined by the service or the hospital that will ensure the provision of a high standard medical practice
  • Representing the department and the hospital at community, interhospital, regional and state levels as requested by the Head of Service or the Executive of the hospital

Clinical Administration

  • Participation in quality, safety and clinical risk management activities
  • Contributing to clinical review programs to monitor standards of practice and ensure the maintenance of quality outcomes

Essential

  • Registered as a medical practitioner and specialist paediatrician with AHPRA
  • FRACP (or equivalent)
  • Track record in research and teaching commensurate with level
  • Higher research degree (e.g; MD or PhD), or equivalent body of work
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting and publishing high quality research in a recognised area within Paediatrics
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate and post-graduate students in a clinical and academic setting
  • Engaging in medical teaching programs

Desired

  • Experience in provision of paediatric care in a tertiary referral center
