The School of Agriculture, Food and Wine invites an enthusiastic and driven emerging academic to join our dynamic and innovative team. This rare continuing teaching and research role offers the chance to inspire and equip the next generation of learners with the skills and knowledge to thrive in industry and society.

In this role, you will contribute to the development of research-informed undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Food Science & Technology, and Food and Nutrition Science, respectively, while building your research profile alongside world-class researchers. With access to exceptional infrastructure and resources at the Waite campus, you will also have the opportunity to engage meaningfully with industry and government, delivering real-world impact.

We are looking for a candidate with a PhD in Food Science or a closely related discipline, who brings experience in teaching at the undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels and a passion for innovative course design. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in high-quality teaching activities, including assessment, marking, and pastoral care, while fostering excellent educational outcomes with independence and creativity. A proven record of accomplishment in food science research or a related field, reflected in peer-reviewed publications, trade journals, patents, or equivalent, is essential.

To be successful at Level A you will need to address the below criteria as well as additional desirable criteria found in the attached Role Statement document:

  1. A PhD in food science or a closely related discipline.
  2. Experience in teaching at the undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, with an ability to contribute to course development.
  3. Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality teaching-related activities including assessment, marking, pastoral care.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work under limited supervision to deliver excellent educational outcomes, including demonstrated capacity to relate to students from a variety of backgrounds.
  5. A record of accomplishment relative to opportunity in food science research or related field evidenced by papers in peer-reviewed journals, and trade journals, patents or equivalent.
  6. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate research results to diverse audiences including academic, industry, the broader community including in an international setting.
  7. Strong organisational, time management, intercultural and interpersonal skills.
  8. Commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
