Working under broad direction with a high overall degree of autonomy, the Principal Engineer will manage a significant and complex suite of projects and lead a small team to deliver machine learning systems for challenging real-world problems that will make a difference in people’s daily lives. They will be heavily involved in the complete development lifecycle for computer vision and machine learning software solutions including scoping and planning projects; and, taking responsibility for delivery of software to end users.  In this multifaceted role, the successful applicant will also engage in the development of machine learning systems as a machine learning engineer.

To be successful you will need:

  • 5+ years’ experience in commercial software development and product management
  • 5+ years’ experience in a commercial programming language and environment (i.e. Java, .NET, C++) and also in a data science programming language (i.e. python, R) and toolchain (i.e. PyTorch, Tensorflow, Scikit learn, CARET)
  • Strong software design and architecture skills, including a deep understanding of how systems are built, orchestrated, tested, and automated
  • Experience in cloud-based software development, automation, monitoring and orchestration
    • E.g., Kubernetes, Google Cloud, Terraform, Ansible
    • Demonstrable experience developing, testing, and operationalising machine learning products into such an environment
  • Experience in the end-to-end delivery user-facing systems that have a machine learning element to them
