The Technical Services Team delivers outstanding support to students, academics and researchers for enhancing education and research output. The Technical Services Team provides a platform for collaboration across the University, broad industry involvement and community engagement through focused customer service based on exceptional personnel skills and expertise. The Technical Services Team works closely with Academics and professional teams as well as the Infrastructure Branch to ensure efficient utilisation of teaching, office, workshop and laboratory space. Being committed to Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) values, the team manages safe operations across the Faculty labs and workshops.

The Design & Manufacturing team supports the activities across numerous disciplines in the SET Faculty. The team provides structured training to students on the equipment in the fabrication studio and supervision of students in the creation studio. In addition, the team provides advice and fabrication services covering 3D printing, and fabrication in a range of engineering materials, using a range of workshop equipment, for the delivery of undergraduate teaching, postgraduate education and research including industry partners.

Working under general direction collaboratively with the rest of Technical Services team, the technical officer delivers engineering trade-based design and manufacturing, maintenance and advisory services to students, academic and research staff in line with the strategic direction of the Faculty.

To be successful you will need:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of technical services and principles associated with working within customer focused mechanical workshop.
  • Demonstrated experience in engineering trade-based manufacturing and maintenance.
  • Demonstrated high level of computer literacy, knowledge, and hands-on experience in use of specialized engineering software for design and manufacturing including 3D printing.
  • Excellent understanding of Work Health and Safety requirements in relation to mechanical workshop environment.
  • High level organisational skills and an ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines, and the ability to priorities’ tasks and assignments.
  • Ability to work with general supervision, think creatively and laterally and exercise initiative as appropriate to achieve a standard of excellence and monitor on-going performance.

Qualification/s:

  • Completion of a post-trades certificate and extensive relevant experience working in a workshop environment; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and / or education / training.
