The 3D Chromatin Organisation Lab (PI Dr Joanna Achinger-Kawecka) is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work on the interphase of chromatin structure, epigenetics and transcriptomics. The applicant should have experience in epigenetics and/or chromatin field, a good publication record and be motivated to independently shape their own projects.

The Lab’s research focuses on understanding the role of 3D chromatin alterations in driving cancer development, progression and treatment resistance. We use cutting-edge methods (multi-omics, single-cell, genome editing as well as various pre-clinical model systems) to study the interplay of the 3D chromatin, epigenome and transcriptome in cancer. We use hormone-dependent cancers as a model system for experimental design aimed at increasing our understanding of the cancer biology and to accelerate the development of new therapies.

About the project:

The successful candidate will use cutting-edge experimental and bioinformatics approaches to understand the dynamic and specific 3D chromatin organization in cancer cells and its interaction with non-coding elements and transcription factors.

The applicant will implement a number of new multi-omics approaches, including different chromosome conformation capture-based methods (Hi-C, Capture Hi-C, HiChIP, Pore-C) and the development of high-throughput single-cell and spatial 3D genome, epigenome and transcriptome profiling technologies. The applicant will have on-site access to core equipment and facilities for epigenetics studies, such as high-performance computing, NGS sequencing, imaging, tissue culture, animal facility and flow cytometry.

Your responsibilities:

  • Implement and optimize cutting-edge genomics technologies (e.g. Hi-C, RNA-seq, CUT&RUN/Tag, ATAC-seq, WGBS, Nanopore)
  • Analyse high-throughput next-generation sequencing (NGS) data
  • Develop novel methods for data integration across multi-omics datasets
  • Supervise student projects at Honours, MSc and PhD level
  • Write reports and research articles, as well as grant proposals, and regularly participate in domestic and international conferences and workshop to present your own work

To be successful at the Level A position you will need:

  • PhD in relevant biological subject (molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics or related) or near completion
  • Laboratory experience in a wide range of standard molecular and cell biology techniques, such as mammalian cell culture, nucleic acid isolation, and DNA / RNA / protein / chromatin extraction and analysis
  • Ability to rapidly learn new techniques and to tackle experimental bottlenecks creatively
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and good understanding of basic statistics
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)

To be successful at the Level B position you will need:

  • PhD in revenant discipline (Biology, Genetics, Biomedicine, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, …)
  • Expertise in molecular biology and genomics technologies, particularly in chromatin structure, transcriptomics or epigenetics and/or integrative analyses of experimental datasets (e.g. 3D Genome, RNA-seq, ChIP-seq/CUT&RUN/Tag, DNA methylation, chromatin accessibility).
  • Good publication record with evidence of independence
  • Experience in mammalian cell culture
  • Programming experience in at least one programming language (preferably R or Python) and experience with NGS data processing pipeline is highly desirable
