An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Specialist Small Animal Surgeon to join the team in the School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences at the University of Adelaide.

We are seeking a veterinarian who can provide leadership and excellence in clinical service delivery and teaching of small animal surgery to our DVM students. This position will be primarily located at the picturesque Roseworthy campus of the University of Adelaide.

The position will suit an Australian Fellowship or American/European Boarded specialist with a track record in excellence in patient care and a passion for imparting knowledge, teaching and mentoring students to develop their clinical thinking and skills. The appointee will contribute to teaching in veterinary medicine programs through course coordination, lectures, tutorials and clinical rotations. They will also provide advanced small animal surgical treatment options for referred patients from across South Australia.

The companion animal hospital is the School’s small animal clinical teaching hospital and offers the general public and referring veterinarians a range of first opinion, emergency and referral specialist veterinary services from a modern, well equipped facility. Working in a clinical training environment for final year veterinary students, our passionate and dedicated staff have the opportunity to make an important contribution to the education of the next generation of veterinarians and veterinary technologists by involving students in case management and modelling the highest standards of clinical excellence and professional behaviour.

This role will allow you to expand your specialist expertise in practice in the clinic as well as the classroom, and to contribute to the teaching and research efforts of a Go8 University and South Australia’s only veterinary teaching hospital (VTH).

The School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences provides world-class, outcome-based education and training of animal and veterinary scientists in a research environment. The School is located on the University of Adelaide’s Roseworthy Campus, surrounded by great lifestyle opportunities including the Barossa Valley, beaches, sporting activities, benchmark schools and shopping facilities.

This opportunity offers diversity in day-to-day work, where, in addition to one to two days of clinical work, you will actively contribute to course coordination, lectures, tutorials and clinical rotations of our students, and further develop your research interests.

We offer a wide range of attractive staff benefits. These include: salary packaging; flexible work arrangements; high-quality professional development programs and activities; and an on-campus gym and other fitness facilities.

To be successful you will need:

As a minimum (Level C criteria)

  • One or more of the following:

For appointment to Associate Professor (Level D) you will also need:

  • Evidence of ability to work collaboratively to secure competitive research grants and/or industry funding.
