The University of Adelaide seeks an expert in the field of semiconductor materials and devices for a new Chair in ‘Quantum Materials’. The goal of this exciting position is to grow an established semiconductor technology base so that it becomes a world-class facility in advanced quantum materials and semiconductor devices.
The University of Adelaide, the Defence Science and Technology (DST) Group and Silanna Pty Ltd have created a state-of-the-art Advanced semiconductor facility for the creation of Quantum Materials and electro-optic devices. The new Chair of Quantum Materials will work with DST’s high power and high efficiency laser diode program as well as Silanna’s advanced semiconductor picoFAB. Leveraging established infrastructure, including a new Veeco GENxcel III-V MBE system, nitride and oxide materials development as well as a device microfabrication facility based on a rapid protoyping ethos, the candidate will have the ability to develop new materials, structures and devices and expand the capability of the facility. The vision for the facility is to identify further advanced materials systems with a route to industrial, defence and commercial impact.
We invite applications to undertake this unique opportunity to lead the R&D as well as teaching programs aimed at the development of next-generation quantum engineered electronic and electro-optic materials and devices. The role will be core to establishing a world-leading capability in engineered quantum devices at the University of Adelaide.
You will work with a team of defence, industry and academic researchers within the Department of Physics (https://sciences.adelaide.edu.au/physical-sciences/research/physics-research) and the Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing (https://www.adelaide.edu.au/ipas/) at the University of Adelaide.
The successful applicant will have a demonstrated outstanding capability in the development and production of semiconductors materials and device fabrication. You will also have a demonstrated ability to attract research funding and have demonstrated initiative to facilitate growth of the facility into new directions.
To be successful you will need:
- A record of distinction and significant professional standing in the field of quantum materials.
- Demonstrated experience in atomic layer epitaxy using MBE systems, semiconductor device design, fabrication and testing.
- An outstanding track record of research.
- Demonstrated ability to attract research funding from competitive grants and industry partners.
- The ability to convey complex ideas to a range of audiences.
