Are you passionate about international trade and development? Do you want to be part of an internationally recognised team?

The Institute for International Trade (IIT) is a leading institution with a global focus and a reputation for providing academically rigorous and practical trade training, policy advice and technical assistance, and research relating to international trade policy and practice. We bring together leading academics, experienced trade practitioners and negotiators to address key challenges faced by businesses and governments seeking to expand trade and investment opportunities globally.

At a Lecturer level, you will be expected to teach into our academic programs.  You will demonstrate thorough knowledge of contemporary trade and development issues and have the ability to supervise students in research in these fields.  Your excellent track record of scholarly activities and/or practical experience working in a policy setting will reflect international standards of research and consultancy activities.

At the Senior Lecturer level, you are expected to make an independent and significant contribution to the teaching, research and leadership activities of the IIT including the development and delivery of high quality undergraduate and postgraduate courses, leadership of research and consulting projects, and engagement in professional activities.

These positions offer unique opportunities to advance your career in an evolving and increasingly important field, and to help develop the next generation of trade experts.

To be successful you will need:

Lecturer (Level B)

  • A PhD (or evidence of submission of PhD thesis for examination) in an international trade policy-related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in international trade policy education at postgraduate level.
  • Demonstrated research output (publications, conference papers, reports or technical contributions) on current international trade policy issues.
  • Experience developing and conducting qualitative and quantitative research and analysing related data; preparing technical reports; and publishing academic journal articles.
  • Abilty to work both individually and collaboratively with senior staff to write grant proposals, generate external funding to support the Institutes research program and develop strong national and international collaborations and participate in Institute consulting projects.

Senior Lecturer (Level C)

  • Meet above criteria as listed for the Lecturer (Level B).
  • Experience in the provision of mentorship and training of staff in best teaching practice.
  • A clear track record of trade policy experience and of working with trade policy makers and negotiators in the multilateral terrain (WTO), and/or East and Southeast Asia regions, and/or the Pacific, being an added advantage.
