KWP is seeking expressions of interest for self-motivated persons to join its media production team.
Employment will be on a casual basis with an immediate start date. Funding is available until 2022.
KWP is a body of Kaurna people, teachers, linguists and language enthusiasts who are passionate about the reclamation and revival of the Kaurna language. The KWP committee grew out of a series of Kaurna language development workshops funded by a University of Adelaide small grant in 2000. KWP is hosted by Linguistics, School of Humanities, at the University of Adelaide.
The KWP media team was established in 2012 to produce language videos, radio shows and social media materials to promote the use of the Kaurna language within the community.
Youtube has become the main focus for KWP's videos. There are two youtube channels - 'Kaurna Language Learning Series', and 'Kaurna for Kids'. This year KWP also launched an lnstagram site which now contains 24 short language videos. These internet sites are designed to engage the community at all ages to actively use the Kaurna language in their daily lives. The Pirltawardli puppet show features a comical team of native animals and birds who engage with younger children to inspire them to learn basic Kaurna words and phrases.
To be successful you will need:
- Experience in writing for film, television or social media
- Experience in camera presentation and interviewing techniques
- A willingness to play animal character roles for children’s language videos
- Some knowledge of the Kaurna language
- An interest in the preservation of endangered languages
- A proactive approach to meeting production and project deadlines.
