Various opportunities exist on a full-time or part-time basis in both general practice (weekdays) and the emergency and critical care service on a 24/7 roster.

We are seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified veterinary clinicians available to fill short-term vacancies of various duration as they arise. The University of Adelaide’s Companion Animal Health Centre (CAHC) combines a general practice, specialist referral centre and high-quality emergency and critical care services for a dynamic and growing caseload of small animal patients in an accredited hospital.

You are an enthusiastic, team-oriented veterinarian with a strong drive to deliver the highest standards of clinical service and care.  You have proven experience in first opinion and/or emergency and critical care services and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  You look forward to mentoring the next generation of veterinarians by imparting knowledge and modelling the highest standards of professional behaviour.

With strong support from a lively group of experienced academic clinicians and pathologists, plus well-trained, hard-working nurses, client services personnel and technical staff, you will also have the opportunity to involve highly motivated final year students in clinical case management.

The Veterinary Health Centre (VHC) is the University of Adelaide’s clinical teaching facility and offers a range of first opinion, ambulatory and specialist veterinary services across all animal species to the public and referring veterinarians. The CAHC is situated on the University’s picturesque Roseworthy Campus, approximately 9km from the township of Gawler and 50km north of the Adelaide CBD on the doorstep of the world-renowned Barossa Valley wine region. To be successful you will need:

  • Proven veterinary experience in first opinion and/or emergency and critical care services
  • High level communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of clients and team members
  • Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to keep detailed, accurate medical records and write professional referral letters and client correspondence
  • Enthusiasm and experience in assisting, teaching or mentoring others
  • Veterinary qualification with eligibility to be registered as a veterinarian in South Australia
