The Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences is one of five faculties at the University of Adelaide. Comprised of five schools and a number of disciplines, research centres and institutes, the faculty is focused on education excellence and innovative research in the health sciences.

Programs taught out of the faculty train medical practitioners: surgeons, dentists, nurses and psychologists and other health professionals. The faculty boasts one of the largest concentrations of leading researchers, academic teachers and clinical titleholders working across the areas of health.

The Adelaide Medical School encompasses the disciplines of General Practice, Medical Sciences, Medical Specialities, Paediatrics and Reproductive health, Rural Health and Surgical Specialties. It is one of five schools in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences and is made up of academics, researchers and clinical titleholders.

The Adelaide Medical School is seeking to appoint and Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor (dependent on successful applicants experience and qualifications) into a joint appointment with SA Health as Clinical Academic in Surgery with a strong interest and track record in research, research leadership, clinical expertise and teaching, for stage of career.  The Discipline of Surgery has an excellent international reputation for its research in simulation, cancer surgery and minimally invasive surgery.

The Discipline is particularly seeking to build capacity in the area of upper gastrointestinal surgery.

You should have a strong academic background and show evidence of successful leadership, scholarship, research, teaching, clinical expertise and administration for stage of career.  The successful candidate will undertake appropriate tasks within the Discipline supervised by the Head of Discipline.

Salary: Level C ($115,310 -$132,966) per annum.

           Level D ($138,845 - $152,965) per annum.

A clinical loading of $30,957 is available. Concurrently this appointment is joint with SA Health and a contract of employment will be offered through them and salary packaging is available.

Superannuation: An employer contribution of 17% may apply to the University component.

Term of position: This continuing position and availability is negotiable.

Eligibility: Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

Position requirements

To be successful in Level C you should have:

  1. Qualifications in MBBS with post fellowship training in Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery
  2. Practicing clinician with Fellowship of College eg FRACS
  3. Demonstrated experience of undergraduate teaching in clinical skills
  4. Evidence of significant contributions to the teaching effort of a department, school or faculty at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate levels
  5. Demonstrated research experience with peer reviewed journals and evidence of ability to attract research funding

To be successful in Level D you should have the above with demonstrate academic excellence which may be evidenced by an outstanding contribution to teaching, research and the profession.
