The Faculty of Sciences is one of five faculties at the University of Adelaide. As the first university in Australia to grant degrees in science (1882), science has long been at the cornerstone of the institution and this continues today. As a research and education leader in fields such as agriculture, food & wine, animal & veterinary sciences, biological sciences, and physical sciences, the Faculty offers an exciting and innovative work environment.

The School of Agriculture, Food and Wine is embedded in the Faculty of Sciences. The school is located at the University's Waite campus, the pre-eminent agricultural and wine science research site in the Southern Hemisphere. The School offers academic programs in food and nutrition science, applied biology, agricultural science, viticulture and oenology and plant biotechnology. The School of Agriculture, Food and Wine has world-class expertise and facilities in human nutrition, agricultural and plant sciences, plant breeding, viticulture and oenology and biochemistry. The School is home to a range of research centres and works closely with a number of co-located partners including CSIRO (Agriculture, Land & Food), South Australian Research & Development Institute and Australian Wine Research Institute, as well as the South Australian Health & Medical Research Institute.

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join us as part of a South Australian Grain Industry Trust (SAGIT) funded project. Under the general direction of the project supervisors, the technical officer will complete laboratory and field-based research for a SAGIT funded project that aims to benchmark nitrogen-use efficiency in a panel of diverse durum wheat germplasm.

Salary: (HEO5) $67,262-$75,057 pro rata per annum.

Superannuation: An employer contribution of 17% may apply.

Term of position: This fixed-term contract is available immediately until June 2018 in the first instance.

Position requirements

To be successful you should have:

  • Demonstrated understanding, at an appropriate level, in the area of plant genetics and plant physiology.
  • Demonstrated skills in molecular biology experimentation, including gene cloning and transcript profiling.
  • Demonstrated experience in design and management of glasshouse and field experiments.

Qualifications:

  • You should have completed a Bachelor degree in Sciences or Agricultural Sciences (or related discipline) with relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of education/training/experience.
